A Surprise Celebration at the Yorkshire Choice Awards 2025

We organised a special surprise without James knowing. He arrived expecting a typical awards night. Instead, two full tables of friends, family and long-time supporters welcomed him. Twenty people who know his journey, his sacrifices and his heart gathered to cheer him on. As a result, the look on his face said everything.

James Bawn’s Journey

James has always put others first. He worked long nights in freezing conditions so clients could avoid disruption during Yorkshire’s harsh winters. His journey began with a single grit bin and a desire to make a difference. For example, he would be out at 4am gritting driveways himself to keep residents and businesses safe. What started small soon developed into a full-scale 24/7 operation. Today it supports businesses right across the region.

Leadership Through Service

Through his leadership at Bawcro Gritting, James built a reputation for reliability and care. His mission has always been clear: to keep the community safe and running, whatever the weather. In addition, he leads from the front, often driving the gritters himself and mentoring the team. Above all, he shows that true leadership is about service, not status.

Recognition That Matters

The Yorkshire Choice Awards 2025 recognised James as a finalist. This gave well deserved credit for the positive impact he continues to make across Yorkshire. Moreover, we thank everyone who voted and helped us reach the final four. Your support means everything. Because of this, your votes confirmed what we already knew: James is a true community leader.

That night was filled with emotion, laughter and pride. James did not need a spotlight to stand out, yet his story and the people around him made it impossible to miss.
