Our Story: From One Shovel to a 24/7 Gritting Service
At Bawcro Snow and Gritting Services, we don’t just clear snow. We keep Yorkshire moving through winter. From car parks to schools to retail parks, we’re out there in the middle of the night making sure life carries on – safe, open and running as it should.
Where It All Began
We didn’t start with a shiny fleet. Gritworks, as it was back then, began with James Bawn, a single shovel and a bag of rock salt. That winter was a bad one and James couldn’t stand watching neighbours and local businesses sliding around and shutting shop. So he just cracked on. Path by path, car park by car park, he kept people moving.
It wasn’t about money, it was about mucking in and helping out. Word soon got around, and before long James was getting calls from all over whenever the frost set in.

From One Man to a Team
What started with one man and a shovel grew into something bigger. Gritworks became known for showing up, getting stuck in and doing things properly.
In 2025, Gritworks teamed up with Bawcro Group. Same people, same approach, just with more kit and support to take on even more sites. We rebranded as Bawcro Snow and Gritting Services, but nothing really changed for our customers except we could do more of what we do best.

Where We Are Now
These days we’ve swapped the single shovel for quad bikes, a large gritting machine and a growing fleet. The jobs might be bigger, but the attitude’s the same. We still turn up, graft and make sure your site is safe so you can open on time.
