The business began as Gritworks Ltd, founded by James Bawn, who saw the need for winter support in his local community. He did not start with trucks or expensive equipment. Just a single shovel, a bag of rock salt and the determination to help those around him.
That winter was particularly severe. As a long time resident, James watched neighbours and small businesses struggle to stay open and safe in the snow and ice. So he took action. He started clearing pavements, driveways and car parks by hand, job by job, helping wherever he could. It was never about profit. It was about people.
A Business Born Out of Passion
What started as a personal mission quickly became something bigger. Word of James’ efforts spread, and within weeks he was receiving calls from local businesses looking for dependable help. His work ethic, care for the community, and commitment to doing things properly caught people’s attention.
That passion became the foundation of Gritworks, a winter maintenance company built not just to react to the weather, but to support people through it.
Gritworks Joins Forces with Bawcro
In 2025, Gritworks Ltd became part of Bawcro Group, a trusted name in pest control and environmental services. The move brought together two respected service providers who share the same values of reliability, responsiveness and care.
Now trading as Bawcro Snow and Gritting Services, we continue the Gritworks legacy under a new name, with more support and greater resources behind us. We are proud to now offer a wider range of seasonal services, including 24/7 gritting and snow clearance to pest control, all delivered with the same quality and personal service our clients know and trust.
